Recording Stuck on "Initializing..."

If the recording button shows "Initializing..." but never starts, the browser is usually waiting for you to grant microphone permission. Here's how to fix it.

Most Common Cause: Hidden Permission Prompt

Different browsers display the microphone permission prompt in different places:

  • Chrome/Edge: Look for a camera/microphone icon in the address bar (top right of URL)
  • Firefox: Look for a microphone icon on the left side of the address bar
  • Safari: The prompt appears as a banner at the top of the page

Steps to Fix

  1. Refresh the page
  2. Click Record visit again
  3. Carefully look at your address bar for a permission icon or popup
  4. Click Allow or Grant Permission

If You Previously Denied Permission

If you clicked "Block" or "Deny" in the past, you'll need to reset the permission:

Chrome / Edge

  1. Click the lock icon in the address bar
  2. Find Microphone
  3. Change to Allow
  4. Refresh the page

Firefox

  1. Click the lock icon in the address bar
  2. Click Clear cookies and site data or go to Permissions
  3. Reset microphone permissions
  4. Refresh the page

Safari

  1. Go to Safari > Settings > Websites > Microphone
  2. Find the Scope Health site
  3. Change to Allow
  4. Refresh the page

Reset Everything

If the above steps don't work, try a complete reset:

  1. Clear site data: Click the lock icon > Reset permissions
  2. Hard refresh: Cmd+Shift+R (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+R (Windows)
  3. Try in an incognito/private window
  4. Try a different browser
